I had watched a television program on the Australian network TV. In it was shown that penicillin powder administration on the wounds suffered by soldiers had a healing effect.
Extrapolating the idea, I powdered some penicillin tablets and sprinkled it over the infested wound of the cat. And Lo! The maggots started jumping out of the wound. I continued this application of penicillin powder into the recesses of the wound under the skin and in the ear bore where hundreds of large maggots and young maggots thrived. Again there was an exodus of big and small maggots. By about six hours from the time I commenced this operation, almost 99% of the maggots had fled the wound. In the following 72 hours only 8 maggots exited. And then, there was none. The under skin of the animal had started turning pink from being pale in colour. Blood vessels turned red. I knew the battle had been won. Three months from the time of sighting the animal, the wound had closed completely.
This experience had to be repeated again on my aunt who had a breast removed due to cancer and the location had become maggot infested and foul smelling. She lived another year and half after the wound had closed.
I shall relate the whole experience in detail later.

ReplyDeleteDid the Amoxcilin work?? That is all I have as well.
DeleteMy cat has a hole with maggots in it's tail. I simply flushed them out with peroxide, applied some betadine and gave him amoxycillin antibiotic orally to heal any infection and he's doing good. Never heard of putting the powder directly to the wound though. Interesting. Might try that if I see any more. Thanks

ReplyDeleteI don't agree. Penecillin won't kill maggots. Ivermectin from the vet will. Probably Capstar too.

DeleteI sprayed with Gentian Violet and they died and I combed her fur with a Flea comb because the worms larvae were all over her. Now I'm battling how to treat the open wounds from the worms coming through her front and back legs 😢 the Gentian Violet hurts really bad because it's raw flesh there and she kicks off the powder if i put a negasunt powder substitute with sulphathaizole lowder (which worked for another cat in healing an open wound on his neck that wasn't healing with antibiotic ointment)... Somebody help me please 😢😢😢
DeleteMy cat had maggots in the side of her ear.I sprinkled some turmaric powder to the maggots hole and it worked!!! The little worms were falling out from the wound hole.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting this! My daughter rescued a baby kitten, about 2 weeks old. We didn't have pills, but had a bottle of liquid penicillin for animals in the fridge. The hole is at the base of his neck. We put just a drop onto the hole and the maggots started writhing like a mass of snakes. The were coming out. We did this several times. My daughter was persistent and picked them all up with sterilized tweezers. That was yesterday. This morning she found a dead maggot in his fur and this evening said she sees a couple of skinny ones in the hole. The kitten is hungry and seems fine except for the wound. We'll keep at this until they are gone. Thank you so much for sharing your story which is helping us to save this baby's life!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat if we gave it to the cat by mouth to ingest?
ReplyDeleteHaving similar with Manx cat. He has poo on him daily. I wipe him in the morning w wipes but the flies have gotten to him & I did see the tiny white specs on his fur near anal opening. Now after washing, I got 2 (wigglers) out, but have no way of knowing how many are up inside. I do not have any penicillin or antibiotic, but if can get some 1. Do you think that sprinkling around his anal opening will work? 2. Any other suggestions? Ty
ReplyDeleteWhat if cat licks the penicillin. Is it safe if she ingest it
ReplyDeleteI read this an hour too late.
ReplyDeleteI picked a wee kitten, maybe 2-3 days old. Black and white with blue eyes. Two holes infested with maggots.
I yelled to my sister to look up on the internet. She said she couldn't find anything ARGHGHGH and I was busy combing the poor kitten her with Dettol.
She just told ne not to use alcohol on the wounds.
While waiting for my sis to come back from the mall with a pipette and gloves impatient me put alcohol on the wounds. The kitten didn't miouw. I thought she was really brave. But she ended up dying. Am so sad. I killed her.
You tried your best. She loved the time she had with you and was comforted in her last hours with your presence. I’m so sorry.
ReplyDeleteI have 4 kittens, probably 3-4 weeks old. Very tiny. Flies have started laying eggs on all of their back ends. (Already lost one little kitten to this) the eggs hatch, larvae goes into kittens back end.... Would this Penicillin powder work on these little guys? Or should I just try to keep them all as comfortable as possible? (Thats not something I want to do, but if its too late then its what I will do. :'( )
